sarah’s favorite things 2016 + holiday giveaway

December 6, 2016 by Sarah 156 Comments

Sarah's Favorite Things 2016. From kitchen gadgets to baking ingredients, these are my must-haves this year!Who’s ready for Sarah’s Favorite Things 2016? From kitchen gadgets to baking ingredients, these are my current must-haves.

I look forward to this post all year. Mostly because I get to share the top 10 things I’m loving right now, but also because it’s the biggest giveaway on my blog. This year, it’s even more amazing so be sure read all the way through to the end of the post. Alright, let’s get started with this mighty fine list. Ready, go!

1. Instant Pot 6-Quart Pressure Cooker
My new love. I’ve only had my Instant Pot for 3 months, but I use it 3-4 times a week. It has it’s own little place on my kitchen counter, right where it belongs. It cooks soups and stews in 30 minutes {plus 10-15 minutes to pressurize}. With so many preset settings, it also has a slow cooker setting so it’s replaced my crockpot! I just can’t say enough good things about the Instant Pot. Oh, it also has a sauté feature, which is kind of awesome.

2. So Delicious Salted Caramel Cluster Cashew Milk Ice Cream
If you haven’t had this INSANE dairy free ice cream, go out right now and get yourself a pint. Seriously. It is so decadent, so creamy and so indulgent. Swirls of caramel and chocolate covered cashews in a rich cashew milk based ice cream. I totally understand why this deliciousness flies off the shelf. It’s just that good.

3. Rodelle Organic Baking Cocoa Powder
I only recently discovered this high quality, dutch processed cocoa powder from Rodelle at our Coscto. I picked it up because it was such an incredible deal. I’m so glad I did! It adds such a deep, rich chocolate flavor to all of my cookies, cakes and chocolate treats. Love that it comes in a 25-ounce resealable bag too.

4. Norpro Grip-EZ Stainless Steel Scoop
I shared this scoop last year in my favorite things post, but it was the smaller size {which I use for cookies}. This is the 3-tablespoon size and I use it for filling my muffin tins when I’m making cupcakes, muffins and cornbread. It scoops out just the right amount!

5. Bob’s Red Mill Organic Coconut Sugar
Most of you know I’m completely addicted to this stuff. Organic coconut sugar from Bob’s Red Mill. I bake with it all. the. time. It’s even better than brown sugar and bakes beautifully in so many baked goods. I even add it to my coffee cause I just can’t get enough.

6. Good Karma Strawberry Probiotic Drinkable Yogurt
New to me this year, this probiotic drinkable yogurt from Good Karma is pretty tasty! It’s made with their flaxmilk, is gluten free and vegan. I’m smitten with the strawberry flavor, but it also comes in plain, good greens and blueberry. My kids drink it in the morning before school and I like to add it to my smoothies. Good for that gut health!

7. Pyrex Glass 2- Cup Measuring Cup
Every baker needs a Pyrex glass measuring cup. They come in handy for so many things, especially with that pouring spout. Durable and made to last. The 100th anniversary addition is turquoise {my fave} and it’s pretty darn cute.

8. Scanwood Olive Wood Utensil Set
I seriously use these spoons every time I cook. My gorgeous olive wood spoons meet all of my stirring and sautéing needs. I’ve had many of them for years and I’m hooked. Sturdy wooden spoons. Another kitchen essential.

9. Nordic Ware Natural Aluminum Commercial Baker’s Quarter Sheet
This little pan has become my little friend. I use it for toasting bread in the oven, for baking brownies, for making bar cookies. It’s just the perfect size. A 9×13-inch shallow baking pan, with oh so many uses. Nordic Ware makes really good baking pans and this one does not disappoint!

10. Bread Srsly Sourdough Bread
Gluten free vegan sourdough bread delivered right to your door. Yes, please! I know so many friends that are gluten free and have missed sourdough bread. You don’t have to anymore because Bread Srsly bakes, sells and ships the most amazing gluten free vegan sourdough bread. You can find it in some Whole Foods and also on their website. They have classic, seeded, kale, sweet onion sourdough loaves, as well as sandwich rolls and dinner rolls.

    1) I need a roasting pan. I use my cake pan and I’d really like a bigger pan for cooking.
    2) This is a hard one. I’ve been gf for many years and tend to stick to what I like. I tried some new cookies the other day that were on sale and they were good.
    3) Snickerdoodles always bring back childhood memories! I’m wishing I had some now.

I have a kitchen scale on my wishlist as well as another bowl for my Kitchenaid mixer. My toddler has a gluten intolerance and we often use Bob’s Red Mill products. My mother-in-law, who has Celiac Disease, bought us “The How Can It Be Gluten Free Cookbook” from America’s Test Kitchen last year and I would love to have a kitchen scale to get precise with my baking. We have a 6-month-old as well and I am wondering if he will have any aversions to gluten; my sister-in-laws family is also gluten free due to allergies with their children as well.

We actually get the Granola Bars from Target! It is the only store around me that has them! And I just saw that they carry another flavor of Auntie Anne’s Gluten Free Granola bars–I think it is Oatmeal Cookie or something like that!

Every year–for New Year’s, actually–my family bakes cookies as part of our tradition. One of my favorite, from childhood, we call Tom Thumb cookies. I think they are also referred to as Pecan Tassies. We usually only get them for New Year’s or as a birthday special request.

    1) My dad was complaining about the pans we have, so I already bought him a new set.

    2) I haven’t noticed any!

    3) Peanut butter cookies, since my dad handmakes them!

i would love to have a food processor. After seeing how fast it sliced up sweet potatoes, I can just imagine what it could do with all the things I spent hours slicing/dicing up to freeze so I wouldn’t waste it. And I like the spiral thing, not sure if a food processor could do that.

Okay, I need to figure out how to properly measure flour. Is there any tool better than the spoon method? I figure you would know if there’s a best tool for that. A flour sifter? Is that still a thing – such a n00b!
